Transitional Dressing: Winter into Spring

It’s that tricky time of the year when it’s difficult to know what clothes to put on. I live in the North East of England and this week alone we’ve had wind, rain, snow and sun. It feels like every week there’s a new storm to contend with – but it’s March! Spring should be just around the corner…

Some days I feel like I still need my winter coat, hat and scarf, and other days the sun is starting to peek out from behind the clouds, if only for an hour or so. Summer seems like a LONG way off but I’ve been making small tweaks to my wardrobe in preparation for slightly warmer weather.

Warning, there is still a lot of black, because well, it’s me.

It’s not quite time to get the legs out just yet, so a thin pair of tights come in really handy if I’m wanting to wear a dress. To cover up, I’m still reaching for a scarf. I love this one from Saint + Sofia. It’s black on one side, grey on the other and has the words “Rock & Roll” all over it which I really like if I’m wanting to make my outfit a little more ‘edgy’.

I love leopard print at any time of the year, and this backpack from Kate Spade is the perfect accessory. It fits in everything I need on a daily basis, and is super cute if you’re looking to add a subtle print to your outfit.

I’ve layered a leather jacket from Zara on top of this look but when it’s warm enough that can be taken off to reveal this jersey ruffle dress underneath. This is such an easy LBD than can be styled up or down with boots or trainers. I’ve thrown on my Dr. Marten boots to toughen it up a little, but the frill detail adds a feminine touch. I love the collar and mother of pearl buttons, too.

Normally, I am very much a skinny jeans girl – a pair of jeans, a tshirt and trainers is my daily go-to outfit. I’ll even dress jeans up on an evening with some heels. However, I’m making a conscious effort to try some new trouser options this season. I love how effortless and casual these black pants are. With a wide-leg and a tie waist, they are perfect for those days when you just want to be comfortable.

I’ve teamed them with a YSL printed tee, some black converse and my Chanel wallet on chain, to elevate the look a little more. I adore this outfit; it’s so simple but it looks like you’ve made an effort (yet you feel as though you’re wearing pajamas!)

Speaking of not wearing jeans, this skirt is an absolute revelation! I’d never thought of myself as a maxi-skirt type of girl, but this leopard print number from Zara has changed the game for me. I think I was reluctant because I struggled with what footwear to wear with it, but as a casual dresser, my black leather hi-top converse were the obvious choice and I love how it looks.

I’ve added a black roll neck jumper from Primark and a simple cross-body bag. The whole look is casual but put together. If you’re still a bit cold you could easily stick a leather jacket over the top to finish off the look. This has to be one of my favourite outfits.

I love a blazer. They are so great for adding an extra layer when you don’t want to wear a coat and they can smarten up any outfit. I like to put a casual twist on mine (of course) by pairing it with a roll neck jumper, leather look leggings and converse.

This burgundy roll neck is my ideal jumper. It has a high neck, pockets and is long enough to cover my bum when wearing leggings! It comes in a few different colours and is the perfect thickness.

Again, I’ve opted for my Chanel WOC, because it’s my favourite small bag when I don’t need to carry a lot with me. Plus, it automatically makes any outfit look that bit more chic.

Let me know what you think of these looks! Which is your favourite and how are you dressing in this awkward transition period? I can’t wait for a bit more sun but until then, I’ll be rocking my tights and layers.
